First United Methodist Children's Ministry Center

The First United Methodist Church in Victoria, Texas, provides a variety of ministries for children and youth of all ages, including a Day School, Sunday School, summer camps, a nursery, and worship services for pre-teens. To accommodate their many programs, the two-story, 23,500sf Children's Ministry Center classroom building was built across the street from the church in historic downtown Victoria. RMA oriented the building on the site to allow for a pedestrian friendly street edge while positioning the entrance in a safe location away from traffic. This allows ample room for outdoor, child-friendly, secure playgrounds and easy access.

The surrounding neighborhood is a unique mix of historic Victorian homes and the varied civic and commercial buildings of downtown Victoria. RMA was faced with the task of integrating a large two-story volume both with the adjacent homes and the larger commercial structures down the street. The orange brick corresponds to the existing Methodist church and campus, while the pattern of windows break up the facade and work with the existing historic fabric.
