Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church

In October of 1998 a torrential downpour led to severe flooding in Victoria, Texas. Damaged beyond repair the church of Our Lady of Sorrow was torn down, leaving parishioners without a sanctuary for several years. In 2001, the Diocese of Victoria commissioned a new church to be located across the street from the original site. Through a community campaign and many generous donations, parishioners finally had the support to return to their home.

RMA and associate architect Jerome Kutach were selected to design the new church. Designed in a mission style that celebrates the culture and history of the community, the church includes a prominent stucco facade, a colorful alter mosaic crafted by a Mexican artisan, and a custom submersion baptismal font at the entry. The adoration chapel behind the alter shares a glass wall with the main sactuary, allowing the tabernacle to be both visible and accessible from both spaces of worship.
